Koos Kruger is a highly accomplished, results-driven senior executive with more than 35 years of progressive experience in management, finance, and operations.
He has a demonstrated ability to implement personal and business change, and streamline business operations that drives growth, increase efficiency and bottom-line profit. Strong qualifications in developing and maintaining strategic direction and focus. Koos has a broad industry background in health care, construction, manufacturing, financial services and professional services. He is a Chartered Accountant qualified through KPMG, Member of the Institute of Management Consultants and Certified Business Advisor.
Koos assists clients through his consulting company, helping businesses and their owners with practical solutions to solve complex business problems in an easy manner. Business Companion specializes in strategy, business advice and transformation services for business owners of medium/large businesses. He has also been instrumental in delivering transformation and change management service to large corporates, including Primary Health Care (now Healius), NSW Health, Rio Tinto, Downer EDI, Leighton Construction, Serco, and Woolworths.
Koos was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, and began his career as a chartered accountant at KPMG in 1986, working with small to medium-size businesses, helping many entrepreneurs with the success of their businesses.
In the mid-1990s, he moved into the multinational corporate setting as a finance executive working for SAB Miller and Standard Bank, where he led many large-scale transformation projects, including the implementation of SAP in both organizations.
Koos moved back to KPMG in early 2000 as director responsible for their strategy and transformation consulting practice. Over a two-year period, he quadrupled the size of the business, and some of his clients included HSBC, BHP Billiton, Allianz Insurance, Munich Re, Nedlloyd, and South African government.
In June 2002 Koos was appointed finance director within a publicly listed construction group, responsible for the civil and roads, and engineering divisions of the group.
Koos moved to Sydney, Australia, in late 2004. He currently lives in the Southern Highlands with his wife, Davina, and two children Ashton and Chelsea.
He continued his career in construction until 2010, during which time he worked for Thiess as financial controller and Kell & Rigby as COO/CFO. During his career at Kell & Rigby he implemented full job costing, project forecasting and reporting. He was also responsible for ensuring the on time and budget delivery of the construction projects undertaken in the business.
In 2010 he founded Business Companion and have been consulting to both large corporates and privately owned business.
In 2010, Koos was instrumental in the delivery of the largest medical imaging project undertaken in Australia, implementing a new medical imaging software solution across 148 locations comprising medical centres, hospitals, and medical imaging practices.
He is also the author of the Amazon Bestseller – Business Exit Companion – An Owner’s Guide to Exit Planning and Unlocking Value and writer for the Australian Financial Review. He has also been quoted in all the major Australia newspapers on the topic of business management.
Koos further has held director positions on several not-for-profit organisations, including Uniting Church as chair of the board, governance committee and audit committee, and Brigidine College St Ives where he was also chair of the property committee. During his 10 years a chair of the property committee he delivered a new property master plan for the school and oversaw the construction of phase 1 of the masterplan.
